Walter A. Griess

Walter A. Griess was born August 29, 1949 in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from Withrow High School in Cincinnati in 1967. He received a B.A. degree in English from the University of Alabama in 1971 and graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law, receiving the J.D. degree in 1974. At UA, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and PLF.

From 1975 to 1976, Mr. Griess was an Assistant city Attorney for the City of Birmingham, Alabama. In 1976, he relocated to Eutaw, Alabama, and began a private practice. In addition to his civil practice, Mr. Griess also served as County Solicitor for Greene County and Assistant District Attorney for the 17th Judicial Circuit from 1977 to 1992.

In 1997, he formed the law firm of Griess & Shaw, P.C. with David T. Shaw, which continues to this day.

Mr. Griess is a former President of the 17th Judicial circuit Bar Association, and is a member of the Alabama Bar Association, Farrah Law Society and the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He is also an Adjunct Faculty Member at the University of Alabama School of Law where he teaches Trial Advocacy. In 2003, Mr. Griess attended the National Institute for Trial Advocacy at Harvard Law School.

Walter is a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church. In his spare time he enjoys traveling, good music and good food.

Walter A. Griess is a member of the Alabama State Bar (1975) and Georgia State Bar (1987), and is licensed to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.

David T. Shaw

David T. Shaw was born April 26, 1966 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He attended public schools in Tuscaloosa, and graduated from Central High School in 1984. He is also an Eagle Scout. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served as a combat medic in Germany. Upon returning to civilian life, David enrolled at the University of Alabama, where he received a B.S. degree in Biology in 1991. He was a member of Army ROTC, a Distinguished Military Graduate, and served as President of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.

David is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law, receiving the J.D. degree in 1994. He was a member of the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board, Bench and Bar Legal Honor Society and Treasurer of the Student Bar Association.

In 1993, David began working in Eutaw with Walter A. Griess, first as a law clerk, then as associate attorney, and finally as a partner in the firm of Griess & Shaw, P.C. in 1997. He practices primarily in the areas of civil litigation, criminal defense, real estate, probate and family law. He is a member of the 17th Judicial Circuit Bar Association.

David is married to the former Lynda Carper. They have two children, son Tag and daughter Lizzie, and own a George Barber -designed Victorian house in Eutaw. He is a member of Eutaw United Methodist Church. When he's not working, David enjoys playing guitar and banjo, growing bonsai trees, Boy Scouting and youth baseball.

David T. Shaw is a member of the Alabama State Bar (1994), and is licensed to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.
